Martin Creed

The Fondazione Nicola Trussardi celebrates the Trussardi Centennial in Milan with a live performance of the British artist Martin Creed with by his band.
In parallel with his artistic career (he won the Turner Prize in 2001 and he presented the exhibition I Like Things organized in 2006 by the Foundation in Palazzo dell’Arengario on Piazza Duomo in Milan) Martin Creed has also been an experimental musician since 1994, the year he established his first band, the Owada, which performed until 1999. Since 1994 he and his musicians have performed around the world and recorded several albums and singles, the last of which, Thinking/Not Thinking, was launched in January 2011 for Telephone Records.

The experimental sound of Martin Creed and his band will open Trussardi’s big bash: at 10:00 p.m., in the striking setting of Castello Sforzesco, the guitar and voice of the British artist – on stage with Keiko Owada on bass, Genevieve Murphy on keyboards, Ben Kane on drums, Anouchka Grose on steel guitar, and with the visual accompaniment of Rob Eagle – will be the stars of an unforgettable live performance that once again places Milan at the center of the international scene.

Martin Creed has always used the simplest materials to create a world in which obsession and fantasy modify reality, transforming it in a repertoire of rigid rules and daring exceptions. In both his visual and musical experiences, his light minimalism is expressed through small, radical gestures that originate from words, sounds and objects that populate everyday life. Martin Creed’s songs combine scattered phrases that seem not to come from an actual melody or pop rock track, while his lyrics are a repertoire of advice, a program of ideas, a list of numbers and letters of the alphabet, and obsessive mantras that are ironic and radical.
